We currently focus on Yoruba and Igbo. Our lessons are fun and online, taught by native experts.

Do you have a curriculum?

Yes, we have a curriculum focused on helping our students move from complete beginner to advanced speakers. Our curriculum is structured and broken down into 5 levels. (Beginner, Elementary, Intermediate, Proficient and Advanced)

How long will it take me to become fluent?

Our students start speaking from their very first lesson and often engage in comfortable conversation in 6 months – 1 year. Fluency in your language of choice is dependent on your commitment to learning and practice. **

Is Lingawa just a self-learning app?

No. Lingawa is tutor-led. Your subscription includes live online lessons with a native-speaking tutor, plus access to our companion learning web app for practice between sessions. Our self-learning resources are only available while your tutoring subscription is active.

Are the language lessons free?

No. The lessons are not free.

How much do the lessons cost?

Can I pay for the complete course program?

Of course! You have the option to pay for the entire course program, which allows us to reserve your preferred time slots with the tutor for the entire program. As a bonus, you’ll also receive a complimentary class when you choose this option at a discounted rate.

How to Book a Trial Lesson
  • Visit Lingawa.com
    Open your browser on your phone or laptop and go to www.lingawa.com.
  • Sign In to Your Account
    Log in using your email and password.
    Go to Your Dashboard
    Click on the “Lessons” tab on your dashboard.
    Click on “Upcoming Lessons”
    Follow the prompt to proceed with booking.
  • Select “Book a Lesson”
    This takes you to the trial lesson setup page.
  • Choose a Tutor and Schedule
    Pick a tutor that suits your learning style and select your preferred time slot.
  • Select a Payment Method
    Choose your payment type to complete the setup (note: no charge will be made yet).
  • Enter Your Card Details
    Input your card information securely , this confirms your free trial, but you won’t be charged.
    All set! Your free trial lesson is now scheduled.
  • You won’t be billed until your subscription starts, and you can cancel anytime before that if you change your mind. 😊
What Can I Expect from My Trial Lesson?

  • Introduction: You’ll get acquainted and discuss goals, learning style, and interests

Can I Try Another Tutor for Free?

Yes, you can! If your trial/ongoing lesson didn’t quite meet your expectations, we’re happy to help. Lingawa offers free tutor replacements to make sure you find the right fit.

  • Just reach out to our support team after your lesson, and we’ll take care of the rest.
How To Setup Your Account As A New User

Here’s how to set up your account and access your dashboard:

  • After receiving your welcome email, click Get Started in the email.



  • Enter a password of your choice, type it again to confirm, and click Create Password.
  • A popup will confirm that your password has been set successfully. Click OK.
  • A login screen will appear. Click on Email, enter your new password, and log in.
  • Once on your dashboard, you can:
    • Launch a lesson
    • Reschedule a lesson
    • Send a message to your tutor
    • And more!

And you’re all set!

Rules for Students
  • For your safety, please do not share any personal or private information with your tutor before or during your lessons. This includes details like your phone number, email address, and home address. If there’s ever a need to share such information, kindly reach out to the Lingawa support team first. We’re here to help.
  • Maintain respectful behavior; Any form of misconduct, such as harassment, inappropriate behavior, or fraud, may result in suspension of your account.
  • Unused lessons in your wallet expire after 90 days. We encourage you to use your lessons within this timeframe to keep up the momentum in your learning journey.
  • We understand that things come up, you can reschedule a lesson once. On the second attempt, however, rescheduling that particular lesson will no longer be possible. This helps ensure that tutors’ time and efforts in preparing for your sessions are respected.
Where Will My Lessons Take Place?

All lessons take place in the Lingawa classroom via Zoom, with additional interactive learning tools available on the Lingawa dashboard.

How to Launch Your Lesson via the Student Dashboard

You can login to your Lingawa student account from your learning portal link below:

Once you login successfully, you’ll be met with your student dashboard home page where you can access your lessons from the Navigation Sidebar under “Lessons”.

To access your classroom, click on “Upcoming” to see your next lessons. Then click on the green play button next to the date for your lesson to launch the classroom.

All student lessons are currently held via Zoom, so you’ll be redirected to the Zoom meeting link where your tutor will be waiting for you to start the lesson.

How To Launch A Lesson From Your Dashboard

Hi! Here’s how to launch a lesson from your dashboard:

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. Navigate to the Lessons section on your left sidebar.
  3. Under the Upcoming tab, you’ll find all your upcoming lessons.

Launch Lesson to join your lesson.

How To Check Rankings On The Leaderboard

On your dashboard, click on the Cowry icon (      ) at the top right menu on your screen. This will display the rankings on the Cowry Leaderboard.

How To View Your Lesson Rewards
  1. On your dashboard, navigate to the Rewards tab on the left side of your screen.

     

  2. Click on it to see all your awesome lesson rewards.

Conversation Practice – Dialogue Video

A built-in platform feature designed to help you improve your speaking skills both during lessons and on your own outside of class.

  • What it is: A two-minute interactive video tailored to the specific lesson you’ve just learned. It presents possible real-life conversations based on the lesson content, helping you understand how to use specific words and phrases in context.


How to Start:

  • Log in to lingawa.com using your email and password
  • Go to Games and Resources on the left sidebar of the dashboard.
  • Choose your preferred topic
  • Click on Dialogue

     

     

  • Select a subtitle, click on Start Practice and enjoy the experience
How To View Tutor Feedback

Hi! Here’s how to check your tutor’s feedback:

  1. On your dashboard, navigate to the Lessons tab.
  2. Click on Feedback to see a list of your tutor’s feedback.
  3. Select and view the feedback you want to check.

     

How to Provide Lesson Rating and Feedback

This guide is designed to help you assess whether a tutor is the right fit for you. It also gives you the opportunity to share any concerns or feedback regarding your learning resources, lesson pace, or overall experience:

After each lesson, your tutor will share a rating link with you. You can use this link to rate your class by simply selecting the emoji that best reflects your experience and adding any comments you’d like to share about the session.

If you miss the link and still wish to leave feedback later, just follow these steps:

  • Log in to your dashboard
  • Click on Lessons
  • Go to History
  • Find the lesson you want to rate and click on the ⭐ icon next to it
    Then go ahead and rate your class!
How to Send a Message to Your Tutor
  • On the left sidebar of your dashboard, click on Lessons, then Upcoming
  • Under the Actions pane, click on the message icon and chat with your Tutor

     

  • You can also view your ongoing conversations in the Messages section

     

  • It’s encouraged to message tutors ahead of time to discuss goals,expectations and also to discuss rescheduling requests.

Important privacy reminder: Don’t share personal contact info (phone, email, external links)

How To Reschedule A Lesson On Your Dashboard
  • On your dashboard, click on the Lessons section on your left sidebar.
  • Under the Upcoming tab, locate the lesson you want to reschedule.
  • Click on the Reschedule icon, select a new preferred date and time, and click Reschedule.
  • Your lesson will now be moved to your chosen date and time.



Lesson Cancellation

Need to Cancel a Lesson?

No problem—just contact our support team, and we’ll take care of it for you.

Just a heads-up: cancellations must be made at least 12 hours before your scheduled lesson to avoid forfeiting the session.

My Tutor Is Absent: What to Do Next?

We’re really sorry if this happens! Just reach out to our support team right away by email at lessons@lingawa.com, WhatsApp, or phone call.

We’ll look into it quickly and make it right by offering a refund, helping you reschedule, or arranging a replacement tutor.

Don’t worry—you won’t be charged for any missed lessons caused by a tutor’s absence.

How to Request a Tutor Replacement
  • Lingawa offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If your tutor doesn’t show up or doesn’t meet expectations, you’re entitled to a free replacement.
  • To request, contact support here and provide:
    1. Name of your current tutor
    2. The challenges faced with current tutor and/or reason for the change
    3. Name of new preferred tutor (if any), dialect preference, personality preference, scheduling preferences, etc.
  • You can transfer prepaid lesson credits to your new tutor.
How to Book More Lessons

If you run out of lessons and need to book more, simply navigate to your dashboard, click on the Lessons > Upcoming Lessons > Book a lesson > Select Lesson package.

If you have an active subscription, your lessons should autobook once the booked lessons are exhausted. If they aren’t, please reach out to us via email or WhatsApp to charge your card and book more lessons for you.

How to Increase Lesson Frequency per Week

To increase the frequency of your lessons per week, kindly ensure your account is funded (insert article link to fund account)

  • Log into your lingawa dashboard at lingawa.com
  • From your dashboard, go to “Lessons” and click on “Manage”
  • Increase the frequency of your lessons using the “+” button
  • Use the calendar section to select your preferred lesson date

     

Lingawa Lesson Duration

We’ve updated our standard lesson length to 55 minutes to make scheduling easier for everyone. It helps avoid back-to-back booking issues and gives you more flexibility.

You can now book:

  • 25-minute quick sessions
  • 55-minute standard lessons
  • Or stack sessions for longer learning

Still on the old 1-hour plan? You’ll be prompted to switch when you book next. Existing bookings and credits stay the same—only new lessons follow the 55-minute format.

How Subscriptions Work

You can start a subscription using the following steps:

Open your browser on your phone or laptop and go to www.lingawa.com.

  • Sign In to Your Account
    Log in using your email and password.
    Go to Your Dashboard
    Click on the “Lessons” tab in your dashboard.
    Click on “Upcoming Lessons”
    Follow the prompt to proceed with booking.
  • Select “Book a Lesson”
    This takes you to the available packages available to you..
  • Choose a subscription plan
    If a new customer, you can select the “Free Trial Subscription”
    If an existing customer, select the monthly subscription plan.

email or WhatsApp to request assistance or a quick resolution.

How to Control Your Subscription

You can manage your subscription by reaching out to us via email or WhatsApp to request assistance to pause, upgrade or downgrade, or cancel your subscription at any time.

How to Resubscribe to Your Tutor

If your subscription lapsed due to a payment issue (e.g., expired card or insufficient funds), update your payment method, then reach out to us via email or WhatsApp to either retry your subscription or start a new one.

Accepted Payment Methods on Lingawa

The payment plans available are monthly subscriptions and bulk invoice payments. Lingawa accepts the following payment methods (for trials and subscriptions)

  • Google Pay
  • Apple Pay
  • All Credit/Debit Cards: including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club, Discover, JCB, China UnionPay, Maestro, Bancontact, etc
  • Stripe (for monthly subscriptions and invoice payments)


Payments are processed in USD, GBP or CAD depending on your location.

  • You can manage your cards through the following steps:
    1. Go to your dashboard
    2. Click on Lessons, then Manage
    3. Select a preferred lesson plan or bundle
    4. Add your card details including the card number, MM/YY of expiry and CVC number
  • JCB, UnionPay, Maestro, Bancontact may not be available everywhere. If you encounter any issues with these, kindly try another card.
  • 🔐 Lingawa uses encrypted processing via Payrails (PCI DSS compliant)—they don’t store your full card details
To Add / Remove Credit Card Details on Lingawa

To add or remove your card:

  1. Go to your Lingawa Account or Dashboard 
  2. Click on Lessons → Manage

     

  3. Add your card by entering its details including the card number, MM/YY of expiry and CVC number

How to Request a Refund on Lingawa

Need a refund? Just follow these steps:

  1. Please email lessons@lingawa.com or send us a WhatsApp message
  2. You will receive a confirmation email or message once your cancellation has been processed.
  3. A full refund is available if you request it within 7 days of your initial purchase date, and have not yet accessed any course materials or lessons.To request a full refund, please contact our customer support team at lessons@lingawa.com or send us a WhatsApp message with your purchase details.
  4. Partial refund requests must be made within 14 days of your initial purchase date. To request a partial refund, please contact our customer support team at lessons@lingawa.com or send us a WhatsApp message with your purchase details and a brief explanation of your reasons for requesting a refund.
  5. Once your refund request is approved, the refund will be processed within 7-10 business days.
  6. Refunds will be issued to the original payment method used for the purchase.


Need to cancel your subscription? Customers can request to pause instead of cancelling outrightly, when they want to take a break.

  1. Lingawa monthly subscriptions include at least 4 lessons per month and they renew automatically each month on the date of your last lesson.
  2. You may cancel your subscription at any time.
  3. To avoid being charged for the next month, please cancel at least 48 hours before your next billing date (the day of your final lesson for the month).
  4. If the cancellation option isn’t available on your dashboard, please email our customer support team at lessons@lingawa.com or send us a WhatsApp message .
  5. You will receive a confirmation email once your cancellation has been processed.
  6. We do not offer partial refunds for unused lessons once a new month has begun.
  7. If you cancel mid-cycle, you will retain access to the remaining lessons in your current billing cycle, and your subscription will not renew.
  8. Alternatively, you could pause your subscription temporarily during your break by contacting our support team at lessons@lingawa.com or send us a WhatsApp message. We’re happy to accommodate where possible.
Would my kid be in the same class as other kids?

No, each lesson is conducted on a one-on-one basis, providing a safe and focused learning environment for your child. If you have multiple children, they can be in the same group class, but we do not add other students to their group.

Is it an in-person lesson?

No. Our lessons are conducted online through the Zoom conferencing platform.

How long are the tutoring sessions?

Each lesson session lasts for 55 mins for adults and 25 minutes for kids below 7 years.

How frequently can I take classes weekly for the best outcome?

We recommend committing to 1-2 classes per week, along with completing assignments and regular practice for the best results.

Are the timings flexible? What if I can’t make it for a session?

Yes, our lessons are quite flexible. In a case where you’d like to reschedule a session, there is a 24-hour window that allows you to reschedule your class directly on the Lingawa dashboard. We recommend that you contact your instructor via the dashboard to suggest an ideal time that works for you both.

Troubleshooting Tips

If you are unable to launch your lesson from the dashboard directly, please check the following:

  • Make sure Zoom is installed on the device you are using.
  • Make sure your Zoom account is logged in with your Lingawa student email
  • Try switching browsers (Google Chrome recommended)
How To Share Your Screen During Your Lingawa Lesson

At some point during your lesson, your tutor might require you to share your screen in order to review the language resources available for your current topic.

You can access the language resources for your topics on the Lingawa student dashboard. Please see the section below:

To share your screen, simply click on the share button under your meeting controls at the bottom of the page.

Once you click share, a pop-up will appear giving you the different sharing options. At the top of the screen share modal, click Screens, Documents, or Advanced.

Under screens, you can either share the entire screen, or other tabs open. Simply click on the website screen, and you can review your language resources with your tutor.

How To Solve Technical Issues With Your Lingawa Lessons

There are several factors that can prevent you from successfully joining your lesson on Lingawa. Please see some below:

  • Bad internet connection: For this, you can try to switch your internet providers, if you have other options available. You can also restart your internet device, for a better connection.
  • New Device/Not logged in: If you are trying to join your Lingawa lesson on a new device, or with a different Zoom account from the one you registered with, you may be required to join the lesson using meeting ID and passcode. You can message your tutor on the Lingawa dashboard to request for the meeting ID and passcode or reach out to Lingawa admin for further assistance.
  • Waiting for the meeting host to start meeting: You can get this error when your tutor is yet to start the lesson, or you joined the lesson at a different time from your scheduled time on the dashboard. If you get this, simply send a message to your tutor directly on the dashboard, or reach out to the Lingawa admin via any of our support channels.

For any other issue not mentioned, simply message your tutor on the dashboard or reach out to the Lingawa admin for assistance.

How To Solve Video And Audio Issues In Your Lingawa Lessons

To resolve any issues regarding video or audio on your Lingawa lesson, please check the steps below:

  • Check if your camera and microphone are connected properly, enabled and not muted.
  • You can leave and rejoin the meeting link.
  • Restart your device if the problem persists, or contact Lingawa admin for further assistance.

How to Change Password
  1. Go to the login page and click on “Forgot Password”.

     

  2. On the next page, enter your email address and click “Continue”.
  3. You’ll see a success message; now, head over to your email inbox.
  4. Open the email you received and click the “Reset Password” button.
  5. Enter your new password twice (once in “New” and again in “Confirm”).
  6. Click the “Reset Password” button and you should see a confirmation message.
  7. Finally, return to the login page and sign in with your new password.message.


What if I’m having trouble changing my password?

  •  Didn’t get the reset email?
    • Check your spam or junk folder.
    • Make sure you entered the correct email address.
    • Wait a few minutes as sometimes email delivery can be delayed.
  • Reset link not working or expired?
    • Go back to the login page and request a new reset link.
    • Avoid opening the link in multiple tabs or devices.
  • Password reset fails or won’t save?
    • Make sure your new password meets all the security requirements.
    • Try using a different browser or clearing your cache.
  • Still stuck?
    • Reach out to customer support for direct help.
How can I edit my profile information and picture?

To update your profile details, follow these easy steps:

  1. On Desktop: Log in and find the menu on the left side of the homepage. Scroll down and click Profile.



  2. On Mobile: Open the homepage and tap the menu icon in the top-right corner. Scroll down and select Profile.


What can I update in my profile?

  • Name
  • Phone number
  • Date of birth


How do I change my profile picture?

  • On the Profile page, scroll down and click Drag & Drop an image or Browse.
  • Select a photo from your gallery or take a new one.
  • Upload the image and click Save profile picture.


What if I’m having trouble saving my profile updates

  • Check your internet connection.
  • Try refreshing the page and logging in again.
  • If the issue continues, reach out to support or try using a different browser or device.
How Students Can Change Email

Can students change their email address? 📨 Not directly, no. At the moment, only our support team can help update your email address.

How do I request an email change?

  • Reach out to our support staff via our WhatsApp channel.(the link can be inserted here)
  • You can also give us a call or send us an email , and we’ll help change the email for you.
How to Delete Your Profile

Ready to say goodbye? Here’s how:

  1. To cancel and delete your profile, please contact our customer support team at lessons@lingawa.com or send us a WhatsApp message

Helps you assess your proficiency and improvement over time:

Our lessons are grouped into 5 levels of fluency – Beginner, Elementary, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate, and Advanced. 

We will conduct an assessment in your first class to determine the right level for you and get you started. 

Our beginner course comprises 25 lessons covering foundational topics, common everyday phrases, pronunciation, and tones. With this, you can engage in basic, everyday conversations in Yoruba fluently and confidently.

Elementary Level (25 lessons): Expands on beginner skills, covering more complex sentences, common phrases, and introducing key grammatical concepts.
